Isometric (triangle) graph paper for quilting

Free printable isometric triangle graph paper for diamonds, tumbling blocks and EPP quilts. Choose triangle size; download PDF, PNG or SVG.

Paper & style

Print at 100% / Actual size, not “Fit to page”. Then measure the check ruler at the bottom of the sheet: if it is exactly 1 inch and 2 cm, your cells are true to size.

Isometric (triangle) graph paper

Every line runs at 0°, 60° or 120°, so triangles, diamonds and hexagons line up exactly. Print at actual size to plan English paper piecing with 60° diamonds or equilateral triangles.

For hexagon layouts, use hexagon graph paper.

How to use it

  1. Choose the triangle size (length of one side).
  2. Set the paper size and line colour.
  3. Download and print at 100%.
  4. Colour triangles, diamonds and hexagons to plan your design.

Questions

What is isometric graph paper used for in quilting?

Isometric graph paper is a grid of equilateral triangles. Two triangles make a 60° diamond and six make a hexagon, so it is ideal for planning tumbling blocks, stars, diamond and triangle quilts and English paper piecing layouts.

How do I draw tumbling blocks?

Colour three diamonds that meet at a point in a light, medium and dark fabric. The three diamonds form a hexagon that looks like a 3D cube.

What size should the triangles be?

Match the triangle side to the side length of your diamonds or triangles. A 1 inch triangle grid matches 1 inch 60° diamonds.
